Saratoga Equine Veterinary Hospital 1-year internship Application Deadline: January 15, 2009 Start Date: July 1, 2009
The Saratoga Equine Veterinary Hospital is seeking applicants for a 1-year internship position, beginning July 1, 2009. Applicants must possess a DVM or VMD degree from an accredited college of veterinary medicine. The intern will rotate through racetrack practice, anesthesia, ambulatory (including reproductive work) and the full service medical and surgical hospital. The hospital's caseload during summer consists of 60% racehorses from the local racecourse, 15% polo ponies, and 25% jumpers and dressage horses. We are a progressively expanding facility with state-of-the-art equipment. Our staff is dedicated to the highest standards of veterinary medicine and committed to providing the intern with a solid hands-on education. The intern will be encouraged to pursue residency-training in a specialty of her/his choice, but graduates planning to go into equine practice are welcome to apply. Our staff currently consists of four full time veterinarians (two clinicians with residency training in surgery, one ambulatory clinician, and one intern), one consulting veterinarian (ACVIM), two technicians and other support staff. A New York State License is required. Housing is provided, along with a competitive salary with benefit package, one week vacation, and one paid CE meeting.

NOTE: An intern for 2008-2009 has been selected, but we encourage veterinary students to start applying for the 2009-2010 internship program that starts July 1, 2009. It is recommended that you have completed an externship at SEVS before applying for an internship. Externship applications for spring/summer/fall 2008 and 2009 are now being accepted.

Equine Externships:
Saratoga Equine Veterinary Hospital offers externships for students from February through October 2009 with a minimum of a two-week stay required.
The hospital is a full-service medical and surgical facility serving upstate New York and bordering states. Our clientele consists of race, polo, dressage horses, barrel racers, and pets.
The extern will get extensive exposure to racetrack work at one of the premier racetracks in the United States as well as high-goal polo horses during the polo season. Externs actively participate in the work-up of hospital cases as well as some ambulatory calls and work with our Intensive Care Unit horses. Housing is available on a limited basis.
Saratoga Equine Veterinary Hospital is a fully equipped surgical facility. Diagnostic tools include and are not limited to video endoscopy (including Gastroscope), high-end ultrasonography, laboratory, digital x-ray, ESWT, arthroscopy, and ASIF equipment. Caseload during the summer, fall, and spring includes 50% racehorses (Thoroughbred and Standardbreds from the local racetrack), 30% performance horses and 20% polo horses.
